Responsibilities

 

The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Professions and Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month instructor or lecturer position. The individual selected for this position will provide course instruction, mentor students, serve on committees, and participate in other appropriate internal activities that contribute to the advancement of the department. The successful candidate will be expected to focus on high quality course delivery and student learning and engagement methods. The usual teaching load for this position is four classes each fall semester and four classes each spring semester. This position has an anticipated start date of August 8, 2021.

 

The Department of Health Sciences is the second largest department at UCF with ~3700 undergraduate students in the major and about 400 students in the minor. Strategic emphasis within the Department of Health Sciences focuses on clinical, behavioral, and pathophysiological understanding of human health. The Department of Health Sciences is housed within the newly formed College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) at UCF. The college is a core member of the newly formed UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along with the existing Colleges of Nursing and Medicine. CHPS hosts four academic units, the Department of Health Sciences, the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Kinesiology & Physical Therapy, and the School of Social Work.

Qualifications

 

For an instructor position: A master’s degree in nutrition or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution; credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; and evidence of teaching experience in nutrition or closely related areas such as health and wellness, metabolism or chronic disease.

 

For a lecturer position: A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in nutrition or closely related discipline from an accredited institution; credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; and evidence of teaching experience in nutrition or closely related areas such as health and wellness, metabolism or chronic disease.

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years teaching experience in nutrition or related areas, evidence of effectiveness of teaching and instructional innovation in a large and diverse academic program within a university setting, and evidence of effective student mentoring.
