The fitness coordinator supervises and develops student employees and creates and administers fitness programs to provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful beyond the classroom experiences. This position will directly manage group exercise and assist in managing personal training, small group training and educational-based fitness programs.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Hire, train, schedule & supervise approximately 60 fitness student employees. Design & facilitate training sessions with an emphasis on risk management, customer service, facility stewardship and group exercise and small group fitness-specific knowledge.
• Develop, market & manage the group exercise program based on current trends
• Create and administer program budget through the use of appropriate university financial policies and tools to ensure that revenue and expenses are at an optimal level
• Create risk management standards for equipment and facilities based on industry best practices
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 1 year related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. In addition, a current certification must be held from either the Aerobic and Fitness Association or America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). This position requires a variable work schedule. Early mornings, evening & weekend hours will be required. In addition, this position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. This position will also support the University’s mission and goals through participating in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate, for prospective and current students.
Master’s degree Exercise Science, Recreation Management or related field and 1 year related experience.
