The primary responsibility of this position is the provision of creative group fitness programming, including the design, delivery and assessment of group sessions in varied formats including strength, cardio, dance, water, cycling, yoga, and Pilates. The position is responsible for group fitness personnel (45 session leaders, program assistants, and full time coordinator), along with aspects of budget and risk management. The Fitness/Wellness unit includes a Program Director, three Assistant Directors, Coordinators, and Graduate Assistants who work collaboratively to deliver over 80 group fitness sessions weekly, 2,000 personal training sessions annually, and over 1.5 million participants in self-directed fitness activities each year. We are seeking team members who are committed to a student development philosophy for staff and participants. This position will be responsible for designing programs that encourage participants to develop and maintain active and healthy lifestyles regardless of skill, fitness, or experience levels. The position will also be effectively training and mentoring employees so that they provide excellent programs and services for all participants. Included in training and mentoring is helping student staff recognize the ways in which they are acquiring transferable life skills.

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED: Master’s degree in exercise science, recreation, sport management or related field and two years of full-time experience with structured health/fitness programming.

Personnel management and experience in training group exercise leaders. Interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Proficiency with computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and calendar/task management.

Experience in a higher education setting. American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and nationally recognized certifications in yoga and group exercise.
