The Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance at Queensborough Community College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting Fall 2019.

The position requires teaching, research and guidance in Public Health Education. The successful candidate will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions for the good of the institution.

Health Education faculty teach introductory Health Education survey courses as well as additional undergraduate courses. Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion. Other areas of responsibility include curriculum development, participation in departmental and college-wide activities and committees, such as, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, mentoring student projects, and academic advisement.

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior teaching experience, demonstrated scholarship or academic achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
  • Areas of teaching will include Health, Behavior and Society, Health and the Nations, Nutrition, Principles and Practices of Public Health, Social and Behavioral Determinants of Health and other public health related courses. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching Nutrition and a minimum of two other courses listed above. The successful candidate will have significant teaching experience with diverse populations. Experience with teaching and learning technologies is preferred.
  • QCC expect faculty to have a real passion for teaching and engage in scholarship and research in their fields. Preferred candidates for the faculty position would have an established research agenda and be able to take advantage of the substantial academic resources and institutions available within the metropolitan New York area and research opportunities within the City University of New York. Significant research release time is available to junior faculty, and peer-refereed publications are a necessary component for tenure and promotion.
