PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Primary responsibilities will consist of direct oversight of fitness center staff members, day to day operations in the fitness center, statistical reporting and professional fitness services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Guide, motivate and support staff developmental to increase the effectiveness of creating developmental changes in our member population by trying to increasing overall health.
  • Assist in strategic planning, budgeting, and statistical reporting for fitness center and related activities.
  • Lead team meetings and individual staff meetings to maximize staff efficiency.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the fitness center; including equipment/facilities and maintenance. 
  • Manage revenue tracking and reporting for fee based programs and services.
  • Facilitate and advise on incentive, health promotion, and other specialty programs
  • Provide guidance to team members, handle difficult/complex problems and resolve escalated complaints/disputes from staff or members
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with the Fitness Center Manager to provide continuous improvement in the areas of customer service, programming and facility operations
  • Assist Fitness Center Manager in all aspects of human resources which could include; hiring, payroll, training, development, evaluation, and terminating of site staff
  • Provide exercise leadership expertise according to the latest American College of Sports Medicine, Exercise Testing and Prescription guidelines (9th Edition).
  • Execute primary fitness services which could include; group exercise instruction, fitness assessments and exercise prescription
  • Address customer issues and ensure effective and long-term problem resolution

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health related field
  • Personal Training certification from nationally recognized authority organization (e.g. ACSM, AFAA, NSCA etc.)
  • Current certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for health care providers
  • First Aid certification.
  • Master’s degree in health related field preferred.
  • Group Fitness certification from nationally recognized authority (e.g. AFAA, ACE) preferred.
  • Fitness certification in a specialized area (FMS, Exercise is Medicine, Corrective Specialist) preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years corporate or commercial fitness experience
  • >1 year assistant management experience or Sr. Fitness Specialist experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based programs
  • Ability to multi-task, works independently and with a team, and performs detail-oriented functions.
  • Professional and enthusiastic attitude. 
  • Ability to problem-solve, and make key decisions.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts and OSHA regulations preferred.
